Electrical Maintenance

Position Summary | Purpose

The candidate must be able to fully wire a motor control box for plant machinery, troubleshoot machine problems, perform advanced assembly, inspection, aligning, repairing, and maintain equipment while effectively controlling downtime.

  • Job Skills Include:
    • Obtain estimates for maintenance support, supplies, repair parts, and PM parts.  Maintain an effective inventory (not excessive) of critical repair parts or those with long lead times.  Monitor and supervise outside maintenance and inspection contractors for safety and effectiveness.  Builds, maintains, and manages the work order system, assigns work and determines priorities, including for safety work orders.
    • Makes appropriate and independent decisions about maintenance issues and supervises other Maintenance Techs for regular work and special projects.
    • Demonstrates the ability to effectively troubleshoot machine and equipment problems and issues.  Perform advanced assembly, inspection, aligning, repairing and maintaining of Dunbarton equipment and machinery.  Includes roll mills, Ransburg paint line, CNC presses, drying ovens, wash system and similar equipment.  Reads and interprets equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.  Effectively controls equipment downtime.
    • Demonstrate the ability to read, interpret, apply and discuss all types of engineering drawings, including blueprints, CAD, AUTOCAD, and similar drawings.  Demonstrate the ability to use these drawings to effectively and efficiently troubleshoot equipment issues.
    • Demonstrate an advanced understanding of the application of electricity (low voltage, DC, AC, single phase 110v, 120v, 3 or 4 phase, 220-480v), pneumatics and hydraulics.  Installs electrical wiring and equipment, new electrical services, wiring during equipment moves or facility remodels.
    • Demonstrate an advanced understanding of Dunbarton and customer specifications, expectations, requirements and function of all Dunbarton products.
    • Demonstrate advanced skills on PLC/computer-controlled equipment programming and operation – including writing and adjusting basic code on different models and machines. 
    • Demonstrate an ability to teach others in all safety policies, rules and procedures – including training individuals and groups on all aspects of LOTO and Dunbarton equipment-specific safety features.
    • Demonstrate advanced working knowledge of process efficiency techniques, such as LEAN, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping, 6S, KAN_BAN, and similar processes.  Support all maintenance activities at remote locations.
    • Demonstrate the ability to effectively perform management duties for the department in the absence of his/her supervisor or manager.
  • Detailed Work Activities:
    • Align equipment or machinery.
    • Clean equipment, parts, or tools to repair or maintain them in good working order.
    • Communicate with coworkers to coordinate installations or repairs.
    • Cut materials according to specifications or needs.
    • Inspect mechanical equipment to locate damage, defects or wear.
    • Lift twenty-five (25) pounds on a frequent basis.
    • Lubricate equipment to allow proper functioning.
    • Maintain work equipment or machinery.
    • Measure materials or product dimensions.
    • Move materials, equipment, or supplies.
    • Operate basic hand tools.
    • Operate cranes, hoists, or other moving or lifting equipment.
    • Operate vehicles or material-moving equipment.
    • Operate welding equipment.
    • Order materials, supplies or equipment.
    • Paint surfaces or equipment.
    • Plan production or operational procedures or sequences.
    • Repair and replace worn, damaged, or defective mechanical parts.
    • Test mechanical equipment to ensure proper functioning.
    • Travel as necessary to meet objectives and training requirements for the company.
  • Required Education and Training:
    • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
    • Two (2) years’ experience working in a manufacturing environment or equivalent.
    • Two (2) years’ technical training from a certified institution or equivalent experience (four years’ experience or more at a level of Maintenance Technician III).
    • Two (2) years’ experience in applicable electrical maintenance work.
    • The ability to obtain and retain a current forklift license.
